Painting
My paintings reflect a preoccupation with surface, and so consequently, I tend to apply a textured ground and layers of paint to the canvas in order to maximise the opportunity for serendipity. Light becomes trapped in the folds of the surface, and so subtly alters the intensity of the pigment, trapping the paint in thick curds which add a three dimensional element. At times the accidental alignment of the ground will dictate how the work develops and unfolds. I may rework a piece several times before I achieve resolution.
